Peter Constantine was awarded the 1998 PEN Translation Award for "Six Early Stories "by Thomas Mann and the 1999 National Translation Award for "The Undiscovered Chekhov: Forty-three New Stories." Widely acclaimed for his recent translation of the complete works of Isaac Babel, he also translated Gogol's "Taras Bulba" and Tolstoy's "The Cossacks "for the Modern Library. His translations of fiction and poetry have appeared in many publications, including "The New Yorker, Harper's," and "Paris Review. "He lives in New York City.

In-depth and Interesting: A Must-Read for both Theists and Atheists

Jean Meslier's Testament: A Dying Priest's Confession and Voltaire's Abstract of the Testament of Jean Meslier. With regards to the first title, it is pretty neat and astonishing to find that the first book dedicated to espousing atheism is very similar to modern arguments and books on atheism. It's also interesting to find that Meslier argued vehemently against staunch Augustinianism/predestination, which by gleaning from his text, was not only confined to the Jansenists' camp, but wide-spread in the Catholic community. Meslier espoused classical materialism too, which is interesting in and of itself because no one today is an old-fashioned classical materialist. What one will find unique in this book is an in-depth knowledge on the part of Meslier about basic and high-level Christian theology. He attacks these in detail, which a number of atheists today do not know much about.

There are a few things I would like to criticize, however. Meslier argues that because Christians profess that no one can know the essence of God, then it would be absurd to believe in God. To me, this is a pretty facile argument on Meslier's part because no one can grasp the essence or nature of any external object; a point that Voltaire acknowledged quite well in his own short-story titled Micromegas. I suppose that Meslier thinks otherwise because he is a classical materialist. However, considering that it was a post-Newton age, the foundations of mechanical science were already crumbling. Lastly, Meslier's argument against free will is simple and ridiculous, as is any argument against free will.

As for Voltaire's work, I would hardly call it an abstract at all. It is more or less a work entirely of its own. Additionally, Voltaire leaves out any inclination in his abstract of Meslier's atheism, obviously in order to favor Voltaire's deism which ironically Meslier also vehemently attacks in his book. Meslier's work is an attack on religion as a whole, while Voltaire's supposed "abstract" is mainly just a critique of Christianity along traditional deistic lines without being overtly deistic.

Unreadable

I hate to do this but it only deserves a 2 out of 5. Why, I hear you ask. Because it's unreadable. For example, there is no table of contents to give you any clue as to where the book is headed. There is also something about the writing that just makes you put it down for a very long time after each 5 page chapter.

I'm a voracious reader especially of business books on entrepreneurship. But this is just unreadable. After having it for close to a year, I have only read about a third of the 44 chapters.

Good introduction to SAP HANA . However, the use cases provided were quite basic and considering SAP HANA, I was looking at IoT implementation from enterprise perspective There are couple of use cases available online, I would suggest you read that after getting an introduction. This book is for beginners , but not for experts or architectures looking to build IoT solutions.

Kiki Sullivan is the author of The Dolls. Like her main character, Eveny Cheval, Kiki used to live in New York and now calls the American South home. Spectactacularly Eerie: Kiki Sullivan Does It Again!

If it's even possible, I think MIDNIGHT DOLLS might be even better than THE DOLLS (the first book in Kiki Sullivan's THE DOLLS series)! I couldn't wait for it to come out, and I wasn't disappointed. The reader gets to know the characters even better, and to see Eveny Cheval grow into her important responsibilities as zandara (a voodoo-like magic based in love) queen, both in Carrefour and on Caouanne Island, where her father lives. Sullivan's keen attention to detail brought me head-first into the story--and with surprising twists, a love triangle, and heart-pounding danger around every bend, it was difficult to put MIDNIGHT DOLLS down!

Midnight Dolls was FANTASTIC!! I was thrilled to dive back into the mysterious world of The Dolls. It's an epic story on all levels with ethereal magic, swoon-worthy romance and a very clever mystery. Get ready for an amazing twist -- I guarantee you won't guess what it is! Eveny is truly coming into her own in this book, and has met her match in strong, noble, gorgeous Caleb.

From "The Dolls" to the latest installment "Midnight Dolls", Kiki Sullivan is a captivating author. The theme of good over evil is the perfectly laid out. Both books are fast paced and hard to put down. This author is up in coming and one to watch. Definitely on my favorite list.

Legit Forex system. For 99 cents, it's a steal.

I've been trading for over 8 years. I'm always trying to learn and experiment with other systems. Bought this book out of curiosity. The system in the book is actually legit. I made some money experimenting with it. But not sure you can actually make 50 pips a day with it. Also, for me, this system requires too much waiting. So I've moved on. Even if you don't trade the system, there are useful tools in there to use as you formulate your own system. For 99 cents, it's a steal. I've spent much more money on trading/Forex books that are less useful.

Misleading

The only way to know whether a trading strategy is viable is to test it over a very large number of trades in a large timeframe. No matter which strategy you use, the more trades (round turns), you complete, the more accurate the results will be. There is no accuracy whatever to a small number of trades - small number meaning 50 or a couple hundred.

It is very commonplace to see wildly different results between 10 trades, or 50 or 100. Or even between 100 or 400. The same strategy implemented over a 2 month period could show you a net loss of $5000 while over a 4 month period could show you a net gain of $5000. In fact you will never have a good idea of the validity of your strategy unless you do at least several hundred trades in a year timespan.

Fortunately, modern technology makes it easy to backtest your strategy. When you do this, you will find that no matter how "appealing" or "convincing" a simple system seems, it does not work over the long term. No exceptions. Take this to heart as you read books purporting to offer a way to make "$100/day" trading forex or futures or whatever.

That said, you can tell where I'm going with this review. You have to be wary of books that show you examples that fit the theory, without showing you how to handle the 50% of the time when it's contrary to the theory. The only worthwhile things in this book are the few vague, general cliches like "Cut your losses short" and "don't take trading tips from other people." Unfortunately, no matter how good a cliche sounds, it means nothing in terms of real money.

Here's one of my favorite quotes: "Easy to follow and extremely profitable trading strategy to get you started in trading." Wow, why would that work only as a "getting started strategy?" Gee if something like that existed, it would be my go-to strategy all the time. There wouldn't be any reason to learn anything else.

I hope this lengthy review will prove useful to readers who might otherwise be duped into putting their hard earned money into an endeavor that can be very tricky for many reasons, not just the technical aspect.

If you're adamant about learning how to trade, you would do a lot better with a book like Forex Price Action Scalping by Volman. At least there you'll learn some legitimate things about price behavior.

I'm sure the author's intentions are good, but one cannot teach someone to trade with vague, general statements. You need an itemized trading strategy, you need to show examples of how to handle losses, and there needs to be a plan for making up the inevitable strings of losses that occur over time. You need to show the plan in action. Since this book covers none of these, I cannot give it more than 1 star.

Good advice from a seasoned trader.

The author answers questions very quickly and in detail. He will help you in anything you need to understand about his books. After his fast responses I bought all of his books available on Amazon. I started on "Follow Price Action Trends" since I thought this was most likely to be the style of trading I would prefer. He recommended this book "Build Your Forex Trading System" as the starter to give me a better overview of all of his books and a variety of trading styles. I agree, start here. This book will help you understand the differences in the styles. Mr. Damir is making his money trading and has been good enough to help us who are learning to be able to improve our trading. He is not trying to get rich selling courses with empty dreams, like most of the experts. For the knowledge you will gain all of his books are a bargin. His explanation of lot/trade sizing has helped me a great deal more than the other courses I have taken. I recommend you start with this book and buy all of his other books. For the price you will learn far more then you are spending.

Keeping it fresh in the classroom.

This is a fantastic book for anyone who is using the google classroom program. Technology has come along way in my lifetime. I wish that this had been created when I was in school. (Computers were not even around when I was in grade school). This is an easy step by step guide. To use this google classroom, your school must be enrolled in the Google Apps for Education (GAFE) program. I think every school should have some kind of program like this. It is great for teachers, students and parents. All assignments and class information can be looked at 24/7. Say your child is in grade school and has been out ill. A parent can log in and get classroom assignments and communicate with the teacher. Each teacher can customize the site to what is pertinent to their classroom. This program can also allow students to communicate and post information. Everyone learns in different ways. This is a great resource for our future techinical generation. We, as parents, grandparents and educators must keep up with new technology or we will be left behind!

Less Paperwork More Teaching

There has truly never been a more difficult time to be a teacher. Teachers need to be able to focus on teaching, rather than spending the majority of their time filling up paperwork and sending out various reports. Even with all this technology we now have right at their fingertips, many schools still fail to efficiently and appropriately incorporate this into their classrooms. Google classrooms is a great way to interact with and manage your class, it keeps the lines of communication open between students, teachers and parents, basically this book is an excellent guide for learning how to best use this great tool so that you can get great results. It covers literally everything you would need to know, from posting class assignments to managing your students and their grades. Hopefully this guide will make a difficult job a little easier.

She fell in love! This book is easy to read

I bought this book for my mother, who is a teacher at a local high school. She’s recently been interested in combining more technology in with her lessons, and I grabbed this book for her for inspiration. She fell in love! This book is easy to read, with step-by-step directions complete with screenshots. She could do most everything in this book on her own, without needing my “tech help” at all! She has started using the techniques in this book and has learned so much. She thinks this will be a really fun and unique way to bring her class together.
