I don't care much for textbooks but this one was pretty decent. It actually teaches you a lot about Forensics but you actually have to read it which is something I can't do for long. I get bored easily but if you like the ubject this is perfect for you

About the Author
Kathleen S. Verderber (PhD, University of Cincinnati) is Associate Professor of Management Emeritus at Northern Kentucky University. She holds an MA in Speech Communication as well as an MBA and a PhD in organizational behavior from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Verderber has consulted with various civic, professional, and business organizations. Amazing textbook

The textbook is nicely organized and offers just enough information to illustrate points without being redundant. I wish I had discovered this textbook years ago. Aside from being required for class, I have gained so much insight into communication skills. I rented the textbook from Amazon, and their service was superb as always. They offer generous rental times, and if codes or extra access materials aren't needed for the class, I recommend using their rental service.

one of my favorites actually

This is one of my favorite in the Xanth series. Why? So many people are critical of this one because its the first that obviously shows that Piers Anthony is a dirty old man in fantasy land. For anyone who has read his non-Xanth books you know how tame this really is. I honestly don't think these were ever really meant to be children's books and this shows as the series progresses. Good thing is you have to be part of the adult conspiracy to get it, mostly.

Piers Anthony needs to write GOOD fantasy, not PURE CRAP!

Piers Anthony is one of those writers who has begun pumping out books in order to make money. He doesn't care about the writing itself, but would rather pure crap. Piers Anthony should take lessons from the masters of Fantasy like Robert Jordan, David Eddings, Terry Brooks, R.A. Salvatore and even J.R.R. Tolkien. The only way I would read another of his books is if I was paid. He uses sex themes and bases his story on the guy getting the girl in the end. PURE CRAP

A fun romp

Once again we have a fun tale filled with puns. This adventure we have Mela Mermaid, Ida Human, and an Ogress are on their way to the good magician's castle and end up having to rescue Che, Jenny, and Gwenny from the Roc when they try to help Gwenny beat her brother to be chief of the goblins. We of course have another happy ending.

Excellent book for Oracle DBA who need to manage SS

This is an excellent resource for Oracle DBAs who have to manage SQL Server databases. The author understands an Oracle DBA's perspective of looking at the database and has explained the how-to for SS DB from that perspective. Understanding the architecture of a new database can be daunting, esp. if you are an Oracle DBA and know the importance of understanding the architecture. I have not found many books which do a good job at it.
The book is complete in the topics and can get an Oracle DBA or anyone who wants to manage a SS Database, to get to the job with the help of the understanding that is gained from this book.

A wish this book had been around years ago

A fellow DBA at my company and I have remarked over the years that it would be so great if there was a book for Oracle DBAs that explained the correspondence between commands and techniques for SQL Server versus Oracle. Now it's here so we ordered a copy. These days, most employers want you to take care of SQL Server databases as well as Oracle ones so this book fills an important need. I will update this review when I've finished the book. I'm only on Chapter five now but, so far, excellent.

Hands-on phonemic awareness fun based on favorite books

This book enables you to teach phonemic awareness in a fun, interactive, hands-on way without taking a lot of extra time out of your curriculum. The "sound boards" are based on books we all read to our kids including: Where The Wild Things Are, The Snowy Day, Miss Nelson Is Missing, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, The Paper Bag Princess, Curious George, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Mrs. Wishy-Washy, Brown Bear, Brown Bear etc. After enjoying the read-aloud or shared reading, the class works with the sound board in a game-like way to practice sound matching with rhyming words, beginning sounds, ending sounds, vowel sounds, and more. The boards are adaptable to use with small groups or individuals of varying needs. They're great to use with older kids who need phonemic awareness practice, too. Lessons Made Easy and Fun

As a teacher of twenty six years, I am excited and impressed by
Ms. Wagstaff's book on phonemic awareness. Lessons using her sound boards are easy, fun and provide immediate feedback. Teachers are able to assess and remediate quickly any student errors. Detailed directions and parent and volunteer letters help to make reinforcement an easy task. This is truly a book for every busy reading teacher, since it's concise, organized, informative and easy to use. I think it will change the way teachers teach. Parents will also enjoy sharing these activities with their child, since many of these books are on childrens' bookshelves or readily available. Most of all, this book is fun for everyone!!

This Book is life saver and time saver for me. I'm always looking for ways that I can focus on Phonemic Awareness that is fun and enjoyable. I teach Kindergarten, so this is something that we do everyday. The titles used in this book are ones that I had already in my books that I had aquired through the years. They are ones that my students really like. The sound-matching sheets give the children the hook they need to remember the sounds that are being used. Janiel has saved hours of time giving you beginning sounds, endings sound, rhyming, consonants and vowel sounds. This book is a must to help the children focus on phonemic awarenes.

Certainly not for Beginners

Certainly there are quite a lot of information in this book. But to say it's for beginners is misleading. The book lack organization. Many technical jargon is just put out without explanation. Sentences that need explanation are not explained. If you wanna start from scratch this is not the book for you, you may need to look for another book. However the book may be good as a reference for solving specific problems as done in the later chapters. But frankly I couldn't get any good understanding of TV inners from the first chapters. Also the figures are horrible. Name of ICs in the diagrams do not match the text description. And many diagrams for vital components are just black and white photographs that doesn't show you anything but confuse you.

Again, not recommended for a beginner or as a sole reference.

Lacking in actual substance

This book unfortunately does not live up to its hype. From reading the back cover, you'd think that you could fire up the ol' soldering iron and actually get some work done. Definitive repair guide? Definitely not.
Information is too general, with circuits as block diagrams only. Considering the complexity of TV circuits, this is a no-no. Included schematics don't tell you what ICs or components do, with general references like IC304 and D101. You'd be hard pressed to make sense of a circuit even if you have electronics as a background. What more if you are a beginner?
Better information, guidelines and help can be found over the net in the form of usegroups, independent and manufacturer's web sites.
Bad way to spend 30 bucks...

Modern CRT TVs are complex

Modern CRT TVs are very complex. Many years of evolution have taken place. Can you be an expert in TV repair after reading this book? No! Does the book provide a background about TV circuits and probable repair causes? Yes!

I have an older CRT TV. With HDTV coming on strong, I was considering scraping the old TV in favor of an LCD/Plasma flat screen. After reading the book, I isolated my problem to several capacitors in the power supply. The repair was simple because the problem was easy to find.

This book is not for everyone, but in this age of throw away electronics, it was refreshing for me to find and solve the problem. Call it luck or a quest for personal achievement, but this book helped me.

Be warned

First a disclaimer - this is a wonderful book, one of the finest textbooks of pathology ever written. Rather, my complaint is regarding the quality of the printing - the book I received is a facsimile (at full price) with poor elementary printing errors - badly done margins, poor quality pictures, and cheap paper - the whole book has a 'scanned-and-reprinted' look. Even if it were half price I would be dissatisfied by this shabby quality.

So if you want to buy this book (and I highly recommend it), buy it directly from the publisher or from somewhere else.

Fantastic for general pathology !

This is absolutely a great book. It has a lot of positive aspects: 1. easy to read 2. enough details 3. nice anecdotes which are written in smaller letters 4. easy to find what your looking for by bold, italic and underlined words 5. good table contents 6. good diagrams as well 7. at the end of each chapter a good summery
You may ask "If it's so good why 4 stars instead of 5?". Well, the pictures are in black and white. I like coloured books myself.
