About the Author
Gail R. Delaney has been actively writing 'for publication' since 1996. The first novel she ever wrote is still sitting on her computer, waiting for the major rewrite that will make it acceptable. She says she has learned a great deal since writing that book, and it shows when she looks back at that rough draft. Gail has had several novels published in the genres of contemporary romance, romantic suspense and futuristic romance. Her novels have received several nominations and awards since she was first published in 2005. Gail and her family recently moved from the cold and blustry east coast to Southern California, and is loving every moment of sunshine she can soak in -- without risking a sun burn.

AMAZING JOB!!!

This is one of the best books I've had the pleasure of reading. The twists and turns kept the story moving and the characters were solid. I am shocked, seriously, that with as many wonderful characters in this AMAZING book that she did not plan for a sequel. Clearly the sister needs her own story and Jewell's family has some that would be interesting. A prequel would be amazing. I just LOVED this book.

Satisfying romance

Benjamin Prescott is a highly successful banker, despite being totally deaf from birth. Jewell Kincaid applies for a job at his company, and he hires her on the spot, not only because she's highly qualified, but because she's also fluent in ASL. But from that moment on, it's a struggle for them to suppress their attraction at work. Every romance needs some way to keep the hero and heroine apart, and I found this one more convincing than most. Workplace romance is a serious problem, especially since Benjamin is Jewell's boss. Once another guy in the office starts harassing her, things get even more complicated for Jewell, trying to draw the line for appropriate behavior at work.

But then the office storyline disappears, and the second half of the book is all about Benjamin's abusive father, and him trying to rescue his sister, and get over a lifetime of abuse and neglect. Oh and his family is also fabulously wealthy, such a romance cliche. I found the second half much less realistic and convincing than the first half, as if the author didn't trust that the original conflict was compelling enough.

On the other hand, the writing is really solid, much better than average for a romance. And the portrayal of deafness is good. Benjamin is angry, bitter, and emotionally closed off (another romance cliche) but it's not because of his disability, but because he was abused by his father. He's very well adjusted, uses speech/lipreading and ASL. Jewell is fluent in ASL because she has deaf family members. The descriptions of ASL, how they communicate, and scenes from Benjamin's point of view are all satisfyingly realistic. The author mentions in the preface that she couldn't convince a major publisher to take a romance with a deaf hero. Their mistake, because this is a good one.

Hate to have it end.

A-MAZ-ING story line & I'm so bummed that I finished reading it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars,...it's a romance novel, but not much went on in the bedroom that the reader gets to be part of. I do very much dislike novels with erotic sex on every other page, but at least twice I felt like the author brought me right to the brink of a beautiful love scene, and BAM, on to the next chapter.

Studies of abortion issues are common, but mostly partisan. With a deliberately (and rather successfully) even hand, law professor Hull and history professor Hoffer (coauthors of Impeachment in America) set out to answer one central question: how did abortion become illegal in America? Before Anthony Comstock's 1870s "anti-vice" campaigns, government was relatively uninvolved with women's pregnancies, which were seen as private. Our modern Congress, on the other hand, tries to legislate what doctors can tell pregnant women and even attempts to micromanage the actual abortion procedure by trying to outlaw certain techniques. By examining the roles of as many players as possible religious authorities, politicians, judges, doctors, activists, lawyers, etc. Hull and Hoffer piece together the story and explain the relevant legal workings. In another context, constitutional language might seem too dull, but with the abortion issue at center stage for so many Americans, this very scholarly work is also a page-turner. Legal terms (undue burden, class action suits, injunctions) are cleanly explained in a few concise sentences when they first appear. To orient the uninitiated, the authors interweave brief biographies of key figures (e.g., Thurgood Marshall and Antonin Scalia). No footnotes interrupt the flow: anything readers need to know is worked into the narrative. Important sources are reviewed in an excellent bibliographic essay at the end of the book. The most recent addition to the lively Landmark Law Cases and American Society series, this remarkable volume should be popular with law scholars and lay readers alike.

Hull (law and history, Rutgers Univ.) and Hoffer (history, Univ. of Georgia) here explain how abortion in the United States came to be criminalized in the 19th century, decriminalized in the 20th century's Roe v. Wade case (1973), and the subject of court and legislative battles ever since. They also offer clear and detailed discussions of the court decisions and legislative efforts that promoted or impeded abortion rights, including the strategies of lawyers and backgrounds of parties and judges. Also discussed are how many social forces feminist, paternalist, misogynist, racist, and others have affected abortion law. This study considers many fascinating aspects of abortion in the United States, including the connection between eugenics and banning abortion and the relationship between the contraceptive-rights and abortion-rights movements. The authors conclude with a bibliographic essay and a chronology of events. While there are hundreds of books on various aspects of abortion in society, this one does an unusually good job of covering the full legal history from Colonial times to 2001. It is crammed with information but remains very readable and a good source for student papers. Highly recommended for high school, academic, and public libraries. The authors then analyze the decision itself and trace the continuing battles of the next three decades, including the landmark Web ster and Casey decisions. Very informative and in a good chronological order to grasp where this hotly debated topic has been, and what lies ahead. The sentences were somewhat poorly constructed, running on in legal-speak that could have been easily modified for the average reader to comprehend. In the face of Judge Scalia's passing this past week, the vacancy creates an opportunity to seat a moderate judge as President Obama prepares to leave office early next year. Many qualified candidates that will work towards keeping a women's right to choose as her own.

A highly readable and engaging book on the topic

This is a highly readable and engaging book on the topic, covering the history of abortion laws from early 1800s to the Clinton years. To explain the legal shifts throughout those 200 years, the authors describe the social, political, religious and scientific forces that have lead up to each turning point, and how those shifts in turn have influenced further shifts in a seemingly never ending chain. They do so by presenting the various sides of the debate in an even-handed and concise manner, without losing depth on the one hand and without getting bogged down with technicalities on the other. What I found of particular interest was the behind-the-scenes debates of the Justices both in Griswold v. Connecticut and in Roe v. Wade that shed light on their final decision.

An interesting account of the rule of law, changing attitudes and the expansion of individual constitutional rights. Here, womens' health concerns, womens' freedom to decide her own future, and the rights of the unborn go to court. Well written.

Synopsis.
This is a story of a schoolboy called Kevin who is conscripted into the army at age seventeen.
This story is fact and not fiction. It is not a historical account written in the first person, it is written as a novel giving insight into the small talk, the joys and the challenges of army life; culminating in the horror of war. The things many conscripted young men of our generation faced at the time.
The language is brutal and foul at times but it is within context.
The story happens in 1975 starting with call-up, through basics and parabat training and culminating in Operation Savannah, a CIA backed operation into Angola which lasted for almost a year. The largest deployment of South African troops since the Second World War; where South African soldiers fought Cuban forces sponsored by mother Russia.
It speaks of Kevin’s journey from boyhood to manhood, accelerated by the furnace of war. Surviving two deadly ambushes, being rocketed and shelled and how he slips into a deep and black depression; somehow clawing his way back to mental stability.
How this accidental paratrooper, overcomes the seemingly insurmountable obstacles thrown at him, in just over one year of his life. The account is of him, his buddy Andy and through their collective experiences they become men. It also shows how bonds forged in times of war become unbreakable friendships.
It speaks of betrayal by the apartheid government and how ”en messe”, hundreds of men mocked and swore at the then minister of defence PW Botha.
It also shows how a young man’s faith in God is tested and how Kevin comes out of these experiences with a different point of view of God and church. A shift from dogma to belief and to this day he cannot go to a church yet believes emphatically in a God.
At the end it touches on how Kevin has to cope with PTSD. How he partially heals himself while living as a beachcomber for three months, until he feels he can cope with life and living with others.

True story of most of the boys to men that went to war. And came back different people that didn't really fit into normal life. Guess a lot of us had to go through the same soul searching that Kev had to go through. Each of us with the same "demons". Well written Kev! Salute!

Good coverage of merchandising

This is a great book because there isn't much out there that covers grain merchandising in such a complete way.

Although it's a textbook it really gives concrete, real-world examples of merchandising situations. It starts by going over the basics and progresses into the more advanced topics of things like transportation, storage at farms, storage costs, etc.. It also goes into topics beyond classroom material and offers advice on merchandising aspects like the potential of simply cold-calling potential buyers.

Overall a great book for anyone interested in the commodity markets, farmers or anyone involved in an elevator.

I own this book, and I have to tell that I actually love it.

Among the strongest points of this textbook I will mention that:

- It has a huge amount of graphical examples.

- Uses Matlab and Mathcad to resolve problems.

- Gives numerous examples that includes areas of mechanical, electrical, chemical, and electromechanical engineering.

- Put a bigger emphasis on systems modeling than other books.

Is a complete introductory reference to System Dynamics and Control for any student and professional practitioner.

Responsible and Fascinating Research Review

I am a lay reader. I read few research reviews, but I found this book to be clear and insightful.

The body of studies reviewed seems comprehensive, and the author strikes me as being very fair and responsible in the way she reviews the research. She points out particularly interesting findings as well as places where more research would be helpful. From page 111: "An interesting difference between interviews with men and with women is that adult men tended to see media images as realistic goals. There was a general feeling that they could look like the media images if they wanted to, but that they did not care enough about the way they looked to spend time weight training." Her own voice in the book is not overbearing, and when she does provide her opinion, it is very insightful. She also does a nice job of reporting on literature (not only on studies). The author's own research and interviews are helpful and fill in areas where information may have otherwise gone missing. She provides helpful information about men and body image. She discusses solutions for body dissatisfaction, though not in the same depth as other subjects. I found this book left me with a different and less biased view about bodies and body satisfaction-an impact I wasn't expecting.

Should be titled Body Shape not Body Image

While I really enjoyed the book, I felt it concetrated may too much on issues of thinness and weight. I think the author did a good job of looking at a variety of studies and including both psychological and sociological studies; however, I feel that body image satisfaction and dissatisfaction goes way beyond just looking at body shape. If you're looking to read about body image outside of the 'weight debate' look elsewhere.

This book is a no-frills guide to the heart of vector analysis that should accompany your textbooks on mechanics, thermodynamics, and relativity.

It depends...

Visually, the quality of the print is not satisfactory. Formulas are not easy to read, especially that nowadays we're used to professional mathematical typesetting.

About the content, I must say that it may be appropriate for an engineers perspective. Myself, trained in the mathematical rigor, found that it doesn't explain things well. It's just a recopilation of formulas and recipes that only makes sense if you've seen this before.

If you want to learn this stuff from scratch, I would recomend finding another book.

Excellent stand-alone introduction to vector analysis

I own many Schaum's outlines, and several by Mr. Spiegel, the author of this book. Mr. Spiegel's outlines have always been among the most excellent of the Schaum's outline series and this one is no exception.

This book is so clear and complete it can stand alone as a textbook in vector analysis, and it is much cheaper than all of the alternatives. Besides being of help to students in pure mathematics, it should also prove helpful to students of physics, mechanics, and especially electromagnetic theory, where visualization of problems and conversion of that visualization into equations that can be solved are the hardest parts of the course. This book will help with all of that.

Topics include the algebra and differential and integral calculus of vectors, Stokes' Theorem, the divergence theorem, plus other integral theorems together with applications drawn from many fields. There is also additional material on curvilinear coordinates and tensor analysis that will be very helpful to students of advanced engineering, physics, and mathematics. Highly recommended for anyone who has already had two semesters of calculus.
